阿戈斯蒂娜·塞加托里是铃鼓咖啡馆(Café du Tambourin)的店主，与梵高曾有过短暂情缘。画中桌上摆着一杯啤酒，阿戈斯蒂娜指间夹着点燃的香烟——杯垫上的第二枚碟子暗示这已是她续饮的第二杯。在咖啡馆饮酒吸烟的行为，在当时绝非良家妇女所为，这种生活方式通常只与艺术圈或风尘女子挂钩。

梵高曾在此咖啡馆举办日本浮世绘藏品展销会，肖像背景中清晰可见那些日本版画——这幅肖像很可能就是在展销期间所作。Agostina Segatori was the owner of the Café du Tambourin. She had a brief relationship with Van Gogh. There is a glass of beer on the table, and Agostina holds a lit cigarette. The saucers under the glass on the table betray the fact that she is on her second beer. Drinking and smoking in a café was not appropriate for respectable ladies. That way of life was associated with artistic types and prostitutes.

Van Gogh had organized an exhibition at the café to sell his collection of Japanese prints. Japanese prints can be seen in the background of this portrait. He may have painted Agostina during the exhibition.
