作品简介

这幅画作中，高大的向日葵显然是主体。梵高对这种花卉情有独钟——在法国南部时，他创作了大量向日葵花束作品;而在更早的巴黎时期，他就已围绕这一主题完成了一系列静物画。

梵高在巴黎蒙马特高地创作了此画。背景中隐约可见城市轮廓，左侧则是克利希区工厂的烟囱。值得注意的是，这幅城市景观被绘制在另一幅画《女子头像》(早年于荷兰纽南所作)的背面。这种在昂贵亚麻画布背面重复创作的方式，体现了艺术家对材料的精打细算。

The huge sunflower is clearly the main subject of this painting. Van Gogh was very fond of this flower. In southern France, he painted large bouquets of sunflowers. And during his earlier Paris period, he devoted a series of still lifes to this subject.

Van Gogh made this painting on the hill of Montmartre in Paris. In the background, a little bit of the city is visible. On the left are the chimneys of the factories in the Clichy district. He painted this city scene on the back of the paintingHead of a Woman, which he had made earlier in Nuenen (NL). This was a way of saving expensive linen canvas.
